City of Zagreb boasts with over 200 km of bicycle paths, but almost all routes in the city are reduced to random yellow lines painted (too narrow) on sidewalks. So far a cycling path that would in a meaningful, enjoyable and secure way connect different parts of the city has not yet been built in Zagreb.
Once built primary cycling route network (cycling highway) will serve as the basis on which the local city districts and local boards can easily solve individual situations and barriers in the development of bicycle traffic in their area. The citizens of Zagreb should have a choice between transport modes, wherever they live.
We have made a number of preliminary proposals for the cycling highways and sent them to the city’s Office of Transport. Take a look at the proposals that we designed in collaboration with partner institutions and experts. So far, the city administration has not shown interest in implementing these proposals.
